More than 20,000 children under 17 years old use homeless support services in Victoria every year.

Anglicare Victoria offers a range of services such as lead tenant accommodation, crisis accommodation and a women’s refuge to protect young people from homelessness and abuse while also delivering counselling, education opportunities and mentor programs.

Anglicare’s crisis accommodation for young people in Box Hill is one of only two services for young homeless throughout Melbourne’s eastern region.

The service offers two houses – one for males and one for females aged 16 to 22 – and provides crisis accommodation for up to eight weeks.

The Anglicare Victoria women’s refuge supports young women aged 18 to 22 years who have suffered family violence. Accommodation is offered for between six and eight weeks.

In that time, the young women are offered intense case management to help them build some stability in their lives and plan for a future without violence or abuse.

The young women learn practical things like nutrition and how to shop for themselves and are encouraged to be as independent as possible to build their confidence to deal with life’s challenges once they leave the refuge.
