Parish Partnerships

The willingness of local parishes to work in conjunction with Anglicare has strengthened our ability to reach out to a growing number of children, young people and families living in need within the community.

These integral partnerships include:

St John's Cranbourne

Working in conjunction with the Parish, our Community Worker has consulted broadly with the community to identify areas of pressing need and to commence the process of developing programs to address those specific needs.

Already Anglicare is providing parent support and education services in the region. Other community-focused services will be introduced during the next 12 months.

St Peter's Craigieburn
This parish partnership has been established in a fast-growing region in Melbourne's northern suburbs. Anglicare is providing outreach services from an office co-located with the church in one of the new housing estates. Family mediation groups will soon commence and parenting groups will begin early next year. The emergency food relief service will shortly be enhanced and homework and breakfast clubs are being considered. Further services will be introduced as our community consultation progresses.

Dixon House
The partnership of Anglicare and All Saints parish in Clayton.

All Saints Rosebud
An initiative of the former Mission to the Streets and Lanes, All Saints parish, Rosebud, provides accommodation and volunteer support for Anglicare clients. The Rosebud site provides family support programs, youth services and facilities for children with disabilities. Recent developments include the support of neighbouring parishes in recruiting volunteers and providing emergency relief.

All Saints Preston
Anglicare Victoria initiated a lease with the parish of All Saints, Preston, to enable the development of the former vicarage and hall facility to locate our family support programs. These new buildings sit adjacent to already existing youth services. The parish supports emergency relief and an opportunity shop, along with regular meals for the disadvantaged.

St Stephen's Richmond
Anglicare is now working in partnership with the parish to maintain and develop their emergency relief program in Richmond.

St Peter's Eastern Hill / St Paul's Cathedral
The Lazarus Centre program supports homeless men and women in Melbourne's central business district aged over 25. It provides breakfast for 50-60 people six mornings per week, food parcels, and an outreach and referral service offering advice, links to other services, assistance with accommodation, assistance with pharmacy/medical costs and urgent travel needs, internet access, essential hygiene items and toiletries, blankets, and showers and clothes washing facilities.

Mission House
Mission House is an emergency relief that provides support to low income earners in inner Melbourne. Mission House works in conjunction with 24 Melbourne parishes and has provided emergency relief to 2567 people during the year.

Gippsland
Throughout Gippsland, Anglicare works in conjunction with local parishes and the community to support disadvantaged families. A Memorandum of Understanding recently signed between Anglicare and the Diocese will help to develop further outreach programs throughout the Diocese.

Diocese of Wangaratta
The appointment of a Community Development Worker in the Diocese of Wangaratta in November 2003 also heralded a new relationship for Anglicare. Our worker liaises with Parishes of the Diocese to develop responses to community needs. A Social Audit has been undertaken and the Diocese, the Deaneries and each Parish have developed priority actions for their own communities, tackling issues including social responsibility throughout the region, youth engagement and services, supports to families, retirement planning and management, rural isolation, work with Kooris, emergency accommodation and mental health.
