Altitude Shift media launch 2018 – Celebrities, chefs and influencers face their fears to support kids in care

Last week celebrities, chefs and social media influencers gathered to face their fears and abseil down all 27 floors of Melbourne’s iconic St James building before Altitude Shift officially takes place in late April.

Chefs Daniel Wilson and Adam D’Sylva

The nerves and excitement for the day started with the first group of abseilers, Melbourne chefs Adam D’Sylva (Coda/Tonka) Daniel Wilson (Huxtaburger) and Zac Cribbes (Lucy Liu) who bravely took on the 113 metre descent.

“It’s hard work, but it’s awesome,” said Zac after abseiling.

Next to abseil was 18 year old Tysha.

Tysha is 18 years old and has officially ceased state based foster care now she is 18, although she has remained with her foster family.  She has been in foster care in since the age of 7.

Tysha loves playing music and her foster family arranged music lessons for her, including piano, guitar and singing, which led to her securing a scholarship with Ivanhoe Grammar School. Tysha is now off to study arts at university.

“Anglicare Victoria has been a big part of my life throughout my years in foster care. They’ve always been there and have helped me with my education and supported me financially with my fees for school.”

“I just think it’s a great cause to help support children in care.”

Anglicare Victoria CEO Paul McDonald met with Tysha and encouraged others to take the plunge this April, noting how kids in state care do not often have the same opportunities and experiences as kids in the wider community.

“We’re asking Melbournians and across Victoria to sign up to Altitude Shift.”

“Altitude Shift is about giving us that ability, through people’s kind donations and fundraising to ensure the Tysha’s of the world also have the same opportunity as maybe the people abseiling, their own children have had, or themselves for that matter.”

“What I see is the one per centres, that the State care system doesn’t necessarily cover, but we want to cover to make sure our kids get on to have good, young adult lives.”
