When disaster struck, we were there to help.

Over our 25-year history, Anglicare Victoria has developed a reputation for being there on the frontline, helping communities recover from natural disasters and other emergencies.

In 2021, we played an important role in the recovery efforts after devastating storms in the Dandenong Ranges brought down thousands of trees. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we mobilised to provide services to residents in public housing towers and ran a recovery facility in inner Melbourne for homeless youth who contracted the virus. And our financial counsellors have worked tirelessly to help communities rebuild after the devastating bushfires at the start of 2020.

When northern Victoria was hit by floods in 2022, hundreds of people grabbed whatever they could and fled their homes. They moved to caravans at a temporary village in Elmore to pick up the pieces and come to grips with a new reality.

Anglicare Victoria was there to help. We talked to families who were hurting, we helped kids get back into school, and our financial counsellors negotiated with insurance companies to ensure people received fair payments for the damage to their homes.

We made Elmore Village feel like a community, giving people something to smile about when times were tough. There were morning teas, Easter egg hunts, music lessons, talent shows and more.

Our flexible emergency response model can be up and running quickly when disaster strikes, ready to assist Victorians with food, housing, and practical and mental health support. We’re in it for the long haul, however long it takes. Through fire, floods, and storms, we are there, working alongside affected communities until the job is done.

We will always be there, when we’re needed most.
