Anglicare Victoria’s Bendigo region thanks St Peter’s Anglican Church, Eaglehawk for funds to help homeless program.

Anglicare Victoria in Bendigo has welcomed funds from St Peter’s Anglican Church in Eaglehawk to purchase eight backpack beds for young people experiencing homelessness in the local area.

The funds have been donated to ‘Backpack Beds for Homeless,’ which will be distributed to Anglicare Victoria’s Youth Homelessness Services program in Bendigo.

The backpack beds will help address the immediate needs of young people within the community experiencing homelessness.

“We are grateful for the support provided by St Peter’s Anglican Church. It is extremely valuable, especially throughout the colder months,” said St Luke’s Anglicare regional director Francis Lynch.

“Many young people experiencing homelessness have re-occurring stays, or are being provided with accommodation for medium term periods of time by our Youth Homelessness program.”

“The backpack beds are useful for helping gain a sense of dignity and lift their self-esteem, as well as protection against the harsh weather,” said Mr Lynch.

Over the 2016-17 financial year, Bendigo’ Youth Homelessness program assisted 328 individuals aged between 16-20 in Bendigo to link in with local accommodation services.
