What is a Live-In Mentor?
A Live-in Mentor is a volunteer who helps create a supportive home environment. Each residence has two Live-In Mentors who share the home with two young people – aged 16 years – who are in state care. The mentors act as positive role models to help the young people to develop positive relationships with families, peers and the wider community.
The Live-In-Mentor also assists young people within the household to develop vital life skills to progress towards independent living and helps them through any challenging issues by providing day-to-day support.
How does the program work?
The Live-In-Mentor program prepares young people for the responsibilities of living on their own in a safe and semi-independent living environment. During their time in the program, young people are supported to study or find a job and further develop their independent living skills.
Could you be a Live–In Mentor?
You must be over 21 years of age and complete a working with children’s check and criminal history check. If you’re a mature, passionate person who wants to make a positive difference to young people by being a role model this opportunity could be for you. Opportunities are open to both singles and couples in Melbourne’s Southern suburbs.
