Recently the Broadmeadows Women’s House were delighted to receive a new bus that was kindly donated by Fleet Partners.
The Women’s House exists to support women through all stages of life including new mothers, middle-aged women and older women.
They hold a variety of group sessions, which encourage women to socialise and feel part of the community.
Women’s House team leader Kerry Wise says the bus provides enormous benefits: “The bus will pick up and drop off women who would otherwise remain isolated and unable to attend the support groups run by the Women’s House. Because the women who attend the house are often new arrivals with limited English skills they are often scared to venture out on their own.”
“Many women find public transport too difficult to navigate, or have been ostracized because they are wearing headscarves. Some women have to juggle a toddler and a baby and it is too much, or others are depressed or elderly and find it hard to walk. The regular transportation motivates them to attend the group sessions,” says Ms Wise.
The official cutting of the ribbon was completed by Rosemary Homewood, who is the new Women’s House Patron.
