About the Children
Ben*, Alisha*, Jane* and Jenna* are four siblings aged between 7 and 14 years. The children need a long-term foster family who can provide them with a safe and nurturing home on a full-time basis. All the children are bright but require extra support on how to express their emotions and feelings appropriately. They respond well to structure and routine.
How Can You Help?
Due to circumstances beyond their control, the children can no longer live with their birth family. Their past experiences have left them frustrated and confused about where they belong. The children need to feel part of a family that can provide them with love, encouragement and support. They need insightful, kind and patient carers who will put in place appropriate boundaries, but also accept them and make them feel safe, secure and wanted. People who can devote plenty of time and energy to the children are needed so it would be great if one of their foster carers didn’t work full-time. But ultimately we need people who have a real heart for kids, empathy and patience.
What Supports Will You Receive?
We want to talk to potential carers about what they would specifically require in order to provide great care for the children. As a minimum their full-time foster carers will receive comprehensive training, a tax-free reimbursement of approximately $2,000 per fortnight plus a fully maintained vehicle. Additional therapeutic and weekend respite support is also available.
Key Selection Criteria
Due to the children’s specific needs we are ideally seeking a couple who have no children of their own, or couples who have older children/teenagers upwards of 16. Although it’s not essential, people with a background in health, education or community services will be highly regarded. Likewise, prior experience working, caring for or supporting children or youth with complex needs will also be an advantage. Due to the children needing to reside close to their current schools we are ideally looking for people who live in Melbourne’s eastern metropolitan suburbs (Yarra Ranges, Maroondah, Knox, or Whitehorse local government areas).
