Recognising staff achievements

14th March 2018

Congratulations to our fantastic Eastern Regional Director Darren Youngs on his recent achievement. Darren is the first Community Services graduate of the Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) through the Australian and New Zealand School of Government (ANSZOG.) This is the first time ANZSOG provided scholarships for the not-for-profit sector and Anglicare Victoria CEO Paul McDonald was Darren’s course mentor.

Darren reflects on the Masters and how it has helped him over the last two years.

“I have been very fortunate to be the first Community Services graduate of the Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) through the Australian and New Zealand School of Government (ANSZOG). The masters has improved my ability to understand and influence effective public policy and improve outcomes for the most vulnerable people in our community. The learning opportunity and support from both Anglicare Victoria and ANZSOG has been incredible, as have the networking opportunities. Over the two years I had the privilege of learning from leaders in Government, Community Services and Academia in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Wellington. In my final year, the learning from all aspects of the Masters was put into practice in a ‘real world’ situation. Working in a small team with inspiring managers from across the country, I investigated the NSW Police Force use of Evidence Based Policing. I gathered and analysed information from a wide range of NSW Police Officers, culminating in a report that outlined barriers, enablers and recommendations about Evidence Based Policing for NSW Police to consider. ANZSOG gave the report the highest grade across the 2015 cohort and the award in Sydney is to recognise that.”

Well done Darren!
