Brave Ben-A Carer’s Story, Part Eight

Ben has been making progress due to his attendance at the Boys will be Men program.

Nadine has noticed remarkable changes in the way he socialises with other children and overall, he seems happier.

Ben has continued to play football and the Under 11’s team have made it into the Grand Final. This is the first time Ben will play such a big game of football, so he is extremely excited.

To prepare for the game, Nadine would like to buy Ben a brand new pair of footy boots to replace his current pair obtained from the op shop. Nadine is thankful for donations made to Anglicare Victoria from events such as Altitude Shift which enable carers such as Nadine to access additional funds for those little extras that make all the difference in the lives of foster children.

Ben has never worn a new pair of boots before and is thrilled to arrive for his match looking exactly the same as the other boys on the team.  His excitement grows when he spots his own little cheer squad of Nadine (Primary Foster Carer), Sonya (Case Worker) and April (Respite Carer) standing on the sidelines. The game goes extremely well with Ben’s team winning by 10 points.

Nadine is elated to see the big smile on Ben’s face after the game and can’t help but reflect on how far the little boy has come in the past eight weeks. She is certain that it will not be all smooth sailing ahead but is confident that she can assist Ben to tackle whatever the future holds.
