Providing you with the skills you need to care for a foster child
“It can be difficult to get past the misconception that you have to be amazing to be a foster carer— the children will think you’re amazing just because you have the time, the care and the love for them that they might never have had before.”
Training to be a foster carer with Anglicare Victoria
The Foster Care training program, ‘Shared Lives’ is a broad and informative program that gives carers the tools and skills to thrive as a foster carer.
The information in the foster care program helps carers understand how to support children with traumatic backgrounds and implement strategies for challenging behaviours.
By the end of the program you will be confident in helping children to feel safe, promoting positive behaviour and supporting children to build their identity and culture.
All carers at Anglicare Victoria complete this training during the application process, which may be delivered online or face to face, individually or in a group.
After you become a foster carer, additional ongoing and specialist training will be provided to you as needed. Carers are supported by Anglicare Victoria in all aspects of their role as foster carers, with 24/7 support available.
