Kinship Care

Anglicare’s contracted Case Management services work with children placed in statutory Kith and Kin arrangements that have the involvement of the Department of Health and Human Services, Child Protection.  Referrals to the service must come from Child Protection and these placements are envisaged to be permanent / long term.

First Supports is an assessment and support service for statutory kinship care placements. The service provides timely comprehensive assessments of new kinship care placements, identification of needs and flexible brokerage to support placement establishment.  Following assessment, the program can also offer short, medium or longer term family services to support kinship families, where needed. To access the service, a referral must be made by the Child Protection Worker.

The Information and Advice service is a telephone service that is open to all members of the community and professional organisations between 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. We can offer information about services available in the local community and provide brief telephone support advocacy to kinship carers. This component of the program aims to help Kinship carers develop their knowledge and skills around caring for children and young people and at times can provide access to support groups and information sessions.
